A student awoke around 6 a.m. to find a man standing beside her bed inside her dorm room. The intruder, later identified as 47-year-old Dante Ludy, reportedly entered the residence hall through a laundry room window. The student, startled and alarmed, immediately confronted him and alerted campus safety.

Thanks to her quick response and the swift action of Converse University’s campus safety team, Ludy was located and detained before being handed over to Spartanburg police. He now faces charges of trespassing and assault and battery. Jail records and state documents reveal a troubling history of prior arrests, including multiple indecent exposure charges and a conviction in 2023. At the time of this incident, Ludy was still on probation following a previous sentence for attempted armed robbery.
